The Mono Gallery was opened in December 2006, connecting to the gallery district situated at the bottom of the Castle of Buda. Even in the beginning, its defined objective was to introduce young (Bálint Tirpák, Barna Benedek, Ágnes Verebics) as well as older (János Fajó, Katalin Hetey, István Haász) generation of artists. The gallery’s represented art genres are lyrical abstract, constructivism, figural painting and also other styles that are hard to precisely define.
Open-mindedness and a progressive attitude have been always the main characteristics of the gallery which results in more and more space for photography, video art and installations.
Mono is the main organiser of the ARTplacc festival which was first held in 2011 with the intention of providing a high-quality cultural entertainment at the Lake Balaton. The easy tone of the event aims to promote increased awareness of contemporary art.
