The ERIKA DEAK Gallery was founded in 1998 with the primary aim of giving constant exhibition possibilities to Hungarian and international contemporary artist. The founder, Erika Deak, who has nearly ten years of art gallery experience in New York has wished to support the Hungarian contemporary fine art scene and to introduce it to the foreign public.
The list of the artist has changed a lot through the past eleven years. Painting owns the first place in the gallery’s profile, bu it works with videoartists and photographers as well. In the beginning it represented only young artists, but now we can see artworks from the middle and older generations too.The gallery generally holds 8 exhibitions per year out of which two are group exhibitions and the rest are the solo shows of the gallery’s artists.
The gallery constantly tries to maintain a good relationship with other institutions. Even the first exhibition, which introduced the works of Antoni Muntadas, was realised in cooperation with the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art. Since then Erika Deák Gallery has worked on the co-promotion of artists with many other galleries. For example with the Voges Gallery from Frankfurt, Walderdorf Gallery from Cologne or the Dutch Ron Mandos Gallery.
The Erika Deak Gallery has gained an important position both in the Hungarian and the international art scene. It has participated in many international art fairs, its artists are listed in the most important Hungarian and foreign collections.
